A Tulsa community action group is asking for a Tulsa County Sheriff's Office deputy to be fired after they say she engaged in "egregious behavior" including using the "N" word while talking to citizens at a Tulsa-area IHOP restaurant.
We The People Oklahoma said the deputy was recorded making the statements while working private security at the restaurant. Customers at the restaurant recorded the alleged incident and published it on social media, a news release states.
The Tulsa County Sheriff's Office issued the following statement in response:
"The Tulsa County Sheriff’ Office has a no tolerance policy, which prohibits language and/or conduct relating to a person’s race, color, nationality, or other legally protected status.
The TCSO has been made aware of a Facebook video featuring one of our Deputies using a racial slur. Our internal affairs division is investigating to determine what disciplinary action is appropriate.
The employee in this video regrets her comments, as they do not accurately represent who she is as a person, nor the values of the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office.
No additional comment will be made at this time, as this investigation is a personnel matter."
News On 6 contacted IHOP for a statement, and they said they are looking into the situation:
“The franchisee is looking into what transpired, including working with the Sherriff’s department as they conduct their own internal investigation. Neither IHOP or our franchisees believe that derogatory language of any kind belongs in our restaurants, regardless of the situation.”
